The senior teams travelled north after the Lancs champs at Pendle in high spirits
both women and men's team had a realistic chance of winning medals in both the individual
and team stakes. The ladies team comprised of Louisa Powell Smith, Nichola Jackson,
Victoria Mousley and Ruth Jones. 1st counter was Nichola who came home in 4th with
a great run but just outside the individual medals. Ruth Jones had a stormer and
finished 7th overall and took Gold in the under 23s. Louisa who had been suffering
with a cold the week before after winning the lancs champs came home in 19th. The
ladies missed out on a medal by 5 points. Victoria Mousley also ran well, finishing
21st overall. Liz Greenwood had to pull out in the last week before the event.
The Men were hoping to go one better at least and snatch a medal. They duly delivered
in the most exciting of finishes. Chris Arthur continued his brilliant year with
5th overall, Chris Holdsworth then came 7th meaning it was down to Gary Priestley
and Ben Mounsey as both Yorkshire and Lancashire were locked on 12 points. Gary
had set off more conservatively and worked his way through the field and he overtook
Ben on the second lap. He was then involved in a sprint for the line and he managed
to hold on to get the Gold medal for Lancs by one point. Such was his level of effort
he threw up straight after finishing. You can give nothing less than everything
you've got. Callum Davidson also had an excellent run finishing 19th overall and
took the bronze under 23 medal. Tom Corrigan struggled with a groin injury but still
finished a creditable 29th.
I would like to thank all the runners for their efforts and also Chris Barnes for
organising the ladies team.
